Trust In God With Your Whole Heart

One of the most important lessons we learn in our various relationships is how to trust. Sometimes we even discover that we have "trust issues." This can seem like an unconquerable problem, but I think it points to a core human desire: to be truly known and loved.
What happens when we fail to trust someone? We hold back. We keep our cards close to our chest. We don't share too much of ourselves out of fear that we'll share just too much...and the other person won't accept us anymore.
We can also bring this fear of trust into our relationship with God. We hold parts of ourself back from Him. We don't give Him full reign in our hearts. We keep Him at arm's length. We fear to get too close. We don't trust that His plan for us is better than anything we can do on our own.
But our relationship with God, our loving Father and Creator, is not like any other relationship we have in our life. He is the One who will meet us with inexhaustible love and mercy, no matter what we bring Him. In fact, he wants us to share every part of ourselves with Him.
In the Gospel this weekend, we will hear that many of those following turned away from Jesus and returned to their former way of life. Jesus then said to the Twelve, "Do you also want to leave?" Simon Peter answered him, "Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God."
Let this be our guide as we trust in God's love for us. As we trust His plan, which is always greater than ours. As we trust that we will never bring Him anything that would cause Him to reject us. May we truly believe the Word of God when He says: "Though the mountains fall away and the hills be shaken, My love shall never fall away from you" (Is 54:10).
