Guests are invited to attend regularly scheduled liturgies and monk-led tours during their stay.
Located among the rolling hills of rural southern Indiana, Saint Meinrad Archabbey is a community of Benedictine monks founded in 1854. Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology has been a leader in the education and formation of clergy, religious, and laity since 1861.
The Institute for Priests and Presbyterates (IPP) is the ongoing formation arm of Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology, providing workshops, retreats, and sabbatical programs.
Flexible scheduling: Working with your time frame and your needs.
Participate in Liturgy of the Hours and Mass with the monastic community in the Archabbey Church or with seminarians in St. Thomas Aquinas Chapel. The chapel in St. Bede Hall is also available for private prayer and/or celebration of Mass. Reconciliation and Eucharistic Adoration are regularly offered.
Spiritual direction and/or counseling are available.
Full-semester sabbaticals have the possibility of either auditing or taking classes for credit in the Seminary and School of Theology (additional fees applicable). The Guest House and Retreat Center has regular offerings of midweek and weekend retreats.
Resources and support available for independent study and/or research projects.
Lectures, concerts and other cultural events are held regularly on campus. Nearby state and national parks feature nature and historical activities. Louisville, KY, and Evansville, IN, - each about an hour from campus - offer a wide range of cultural opportunities.
On-campus wellness facilities include a fitness center with exercise equipment; basketball, tennis and volleyball courts; horseshoe pits; a soccer field; disc golf; roads and trails for biking and hiking. Our wellness staff offers exercise and fitness classes, personal training and advice on healthy living.
The Archabbey Library has an extensive collection of primary texts in a variety of critical editions, secondary scholarly literature, and journals in print and electronic formats. Staff are available to assist with varied research needs. Saint Meinrad also belongs to a number of library consortia with interlibrary loan availability.
Sabbatical participants have residence in St. Bede Hall in air-conditioned rooms with private baths. Rooms are furnished with a full-size bed, WiFi, phone and voice mail, television, microwave, and a small refrigerator. Handicap-accessible rooms are available.
