Intercultural Competency
In a context of increasing globalism, fostering the ability to empathize, understand and communicate with people of diverse cultural backgrounds without prejudice is a critical aspect of human formation.
At Saint Meinrad, seminarians live in community with a diverse population of students from around the world. Sharing every aspect of daily life with people whose cultural traditions, opinions, preferences, and practices differ from one’s own can be challenging yet very enriching.
Throughout the year, there are a number of occasions for these seminarians to share the riches of their native cultures through prayers, songs, cuisine, or cultural celebrations.
A welcoming, open community provides an ideal environment for learning the important skills of respecting and appreciating cultural differences.
